Immac Supports NYC AC&C for Pajama Day!

Tomorrow, Thursday February 10, Immaculate Conception School will be having a very special Dress Down for Charity Day to support NYC Animal Care and Control- it’s Pajama Day!  Info from Ms. Skiver about this very special cause is below.

I recently started volunteering at Animal Care & Control, and I’ve experienced first-hand the desperate situation of our city’s needy animals. AC&C is contracted by the City of New York and it is the only animal rescue organization in the city that is required by law to take in all homeless pets. This means their  doors are open to over 120 animals each day that have no where else to turn or who may otherwise be left on the street.  AC&C takes in approximately 43,000 homeless animals a year, the vast majority of which are dogs and cats which are put up for adoption and placed in loving homes.

The upcoming Dress Down for Charity Day will benefit  AC&C through their “Adopt a Kennel” program, in which $50 can feed and care for a dog or cat for one day or $500 can feed and care for the animal for a whole month!  Though it’s a big task, I am hoping we can get close to the $500 mark. The students will be able to observe the progress of the animal(s) we help through pictures and updates that I’ll share at school.

Additionally, if you are thinking of adding to your family by getting a pet, please think of adoption.  AC&C gets dogs and cats of every size, age, and breed and you can view the adoptable animals and get more info on their website, nycacc.org- it is updated daily!  AC&C also greatly appreciates donations of old towels, blankets, linens, etc. as bedding for the animals.  If you’d like to donate, need extra information, or have any questions, please feel free to contact me (Ms. Skiver) at the school or via email at bskiver@icsastoria.org.

On behalf of all the doggies and kitties, thanks for your donations and Happy Dress Down Day everyone!

Christmas Cookie Social December 3!

On Friday, December 3, 2010 at 7:00p.m. in the school hall, Immaculate Conception School will be having a Christmas Cookie Social. We are combining our annual social with a cookie swap. To the new Immac families, the social is about having some fun, socializing with friends, having a few glasses of wine, good food, and winning some great prizes. This is an ADULT ONLY event.

Now about the cookie part- everyone should bring a dozen or more cookies to swap with other Immac families. You bring a dozen, you leave with a dozen :)
